Camel racing is one of the popular sports for Qataris. It is given due attention by holding grand annual tournaments with high prize money.
As many as 70 camels may sometimes take part in a single race. Among the trophies which spark high competition are HH Emir's Sword, HH the Heir Apparent's Sword, and HH the Prime Minister's Sword as well as other big prizes.
There is a well laid-out course for camel racing in Al Shahaniya and many prestigious races are conducted annually by the Camel Racing Federation.
